Mental illnesses are insanely hard to deal with. It is extremely difficult to battle with your own mind every single day.

Today I’ll talk about a mental illness that should be taken more into consideration when we refer to these.

This disorder is called :

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).

This disorder is characterized by the maintance of two or more personalities.

It usually introduces itself as a reaction to stop thinking or remembering a traumatic experience (in any way) or a scenario that made that person feel uncomfortable, and if that happens, another personality takes in. There is usually a host taking over the real person identity.

Dissociative Identity Disorder is a mental process that produces a lack of the person thoughts, the symptoms are : time loss, amnesia, social anxiety, out of body experiences, direalization, feeling like nothing is real and identity confusion.

What other Psychiatric Illnesses might occur with DID?

Along with the multiple or split personalities and dissociation there are more illnesses that might be experienced like:

•Mood swings

•Anxiety and Panic Attacks

•Sleep disorders

•Alcohol and drug abuse

•Eating disorders

•Suicidal tendencies

There isn’t a “cure” or established medication but people CAN get help, this disorder can be treated and should be more known in the world.

If you want to get a clearer idea about this disorder I recommend watching the movie “Split” , this movie has a good rate and will make you understand more about this extremely important illness.
